2016 VR head total sales of 6.3 million Samsung 4.5 million sales top from Baidu VR
Today, according to technology website VentureBeat, a market research company Super Data published a research report that in 2016, global virtual reality headline sales were 6.3 million units.
According to the report, Samsung Gear VR sales were estimated at 4.5 million units last year, and Sony PlayStation VR ranked second in sales of "approx. 1 million units." This means that the combined sales of virtual reality heads from Oculus, Google and HTC is about 1 million units. The report shows that HTC’s Vive sales are “more than 400,000 unitsâ€, which exceeds Facebook’s Rift.
The report also pointed out that "Oculus has shown a strong interest in games and social applications, so the popularity among consumers is more important for Rift. HTC Vive is more favored by corporate developers."
Samsung is the only company to disclose head-to-head sales of virtual reality, saying that Gear VR has sold 5 million units.
