Chen Ruicong said that the demand for tablet computers will show a quarterly growth this year, but the price is the erosion of traditional notebook shares. This year, the global tablet market will reach 60 million units, 70-75% of which will be occupied by the Apple iPad. 90% of the products shipped by Compal will be based on the ARM processor architecture.

The processor is the most expensive component in desktops and notebooks, followed by the operating system and LCD panels. However, for the tablet, the touch panel is the most expensive.

In order to expand the production capacity of the tablet computer, Compal will invest NT$2 billion (US$67.1 million) to establish a subsidiary Hengxun Technology Co., Ltd. exclusively for touch panels, and establish a joint venture with TAIWAN to design power management and touch ICs and set up R&D team development. Compal's production base in Chongqing will begin operations in July this year, and it is expected to reach a certain economic scale in October.
