CSA Announces New Laboratory to Provide LED Testing and Certification

In order to meet the growing demand for energy-efficient lighting products and new lighting standards in 2012, CSA International, the world's leading testing and certification organization, announced the opening of a new 30,000-square-foot laboratory in Atlanta, Georgia. Provides testing and certification of LED and lighting products to meet more than 75 different standards worldwide and the required third-party ENERGY STAR testing standards.

The lab can test safety, light output, heat output, durability and light dispersion for thousands of lighting products, and can test lighting products for homes, cars, ships, airport runways, flashlights or street lights, among others. More specialized lighting products, such as specific lighting for government or military use.

The lab also offers full LM79 testing, complete NRCan testing and automotive headlight testing services. To ensure that LED lighting products last for thousands of hours, these products are tested under extreme conditions such as normal room temperature and room temperature heating to 45 degrees Celsius (113 degrees Fahrenheit).

The lab will test lighting products to meet new energy efficiency standards as required by the 2007 Energy Independency Act. Starting in January 2012, these standards will phase out the sale of 100-watt incandescent bulbs. By 2014, 40-watt incandescent bulbs will be eliminated. In addition, starting from January 2012, various bulbs are required to save 25%-80%. According to the Department of Energy, the new standard will save consumers $6 billion a year.
