Amazon is ready to create its own virtual reality and augmented reality content, and hopes to provide it to users of Amazon Prime Video. The company recently openly recruited a "Virtual Reality Experience Development Executive" (development manager with experience in virtual reality).
As you can see from the job postings, Amazon Studios is hiring an experienced content development lead to develop an innovative hybrid reality experience for Amazon Video. Recruiters not only need experience in developing television programs, movies, or games, but also need experience in virtual reality technology and content production.
The best candidates are interested in using unique ways to tell stories, bring people closer and redefine the entertainment industry. In addition, recruiters also need to “interest in the future†and even “have already lived in the futureâ€.
Rumors about Amazon's interest in virtual reality first appeared in March when the company was looking for developers of virtual reality applications. According to sources, Amazon is developing similar applications and services such as Hulu’s VR applications released earlier this year. They also plan to acquire authorized content from third-party producers.
However, from this new recruitment information, Amazon seems to have greater expectations of virtual reality, including the production of original content. The word "mixed reality" shows that Amazon may also be exploring Augmented Reality content, possibly targeting headhunters like Microsoft's HoloLens. Amazon's move is obviously different from that of Netflix. Reed Hastings, executive director of Netflix, has publicly downplayed the importance of virtual reality.
At present, Amazon refuses to comment on this recruitment information.
