The silkworm that has spit green fluorescent silk has been realized in Gunma Prefecture, Japan.

According to Japanese media reports, the Japanese Gunma Silk Technology Center recently cooperated with local sericulture farmers to cultivate transgenic silkworms that can vomit green fluorescent silk, and shipped silkworm cocoons for commercial use for the first time.

The Kyoto City Textile Company plans to commercialize it. With the sericulture farmers continuing to reduce, the relevant people expressed their expectation that “if the future demand for fluorescent silk can be stabilized, it can become a business.”

According to reports, the center strives to reinvigorate the silk industry and cooperates with the Agricultural and Food Industry Technology Research Institute (Jumbo City, Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan) to conduct a practical feeding trial of transgenic varieties that can spit out ultra-fine filaments and fluorescent filaments.

Last year, the Kyoto textile company "fine tail" commissioned the center to cultivate a large number of silkworms that can spit out green fluorescent silk. The company has participated in the production of green fluorescent silk works by artists in 2015. For the effect of the shining and shining works in the dark and the foreign response, the president of the company called "feeling the possibility".

The company plans to make it into a commodity in areas such as interior decoration and consider working with world-renowned artists.

According to the report, only a large number of silkworms could not be cultivated in the experimental facilities of the technical center. Therefore, after obtaining approval from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries and the Ministry of the Environment, they cooperated with farmers in Maebashi City, Gunma Prefecture, and cultivated about 120,000 silkworms. , the production of silkworm cocoons is about 176 kg. The silkworm cocoons emit a dreamlike green light when illuminated by a specific wavelength of light such as a blue LED lamp and through a filter.

It is understood that due to the increase in cheap silk and alternative materials overseas, the number of silkworm farmers in Gunma Prefecture in Japan at the beginning of the last century was reduced to 121 this year.
