During a two-year period, the researchers allowed a man to wear seven different devices. The device tracks different data, such as activity, radiation, and oxygen, and collects up to 250,000 data points per day.
After analyzing the data, the researchers installed the device on 43 new volunteers. The device can record heart rate, skin temperature, and activity data. The results show that everyone's body is very different and must be personalized.
The research team looks at the abnormal data. One participant’s heart rate and skin temperature were too high for four sessions. Among the three participants, clinical symptoms such as congestion occurred, and the fourth time they were diagnosed with Lyme disease (an infectious disease caused by measles, fever, and other symptoms).
Researcher Grace Peng pointed out: "Before the patient has any symptoms, the wearable device can predict that he will suffer from Lyme disease."
During the monitoring period, 3 participants were sick and their heart rate was higher than the average standard. Researchers use data to develop a set of algorithms that can determine if a user is at risk based on a high heart rate.
Stanford researcher Jessilyn Dunn said: "It is really exciting to consume only wearable data to predict disease." Researchers point out that currently wearable devices can not be used for clinical diagnosis, but it can be used to Assess overall health.
