2016 is the first year of virtual reality, because the three globally-acclaimed VR headlines Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and PlayStation VR will all be officially launched in 2016.
The actual situation is that the golden age of virtual reality has indeed begun, but it is only a small part of the carnival. The early adopters of virtual reality have never been known for their patience. In most cases, our group grew up playing high-speed networks, text messages, and smart phones. In this era, instant satisfaction and timely communication became the standard.
However, there are such groups of people who have been asked by the mainstream manufacturers to wait to solve the shipping problem.
Here's what you want to know.
Oculus Rift - actually missing the fittings, the roots are wrong
Oculus Rift was originally scheduled for delivery on March 28. I use the word "shipping" to imply that the order has been completed and the goods have been properly distributed. However, Oculus Rift clearly does not belong to this situation.
When I talk about shipments of Oculus Rift, we must first make it clear: Many people have already gotten their heads. However, a large part of the hardware distribution has not been completed.
Oculus Rift shipments are mainly Kickstarter crowdfunding supporters and pre-order users. In fact, buying a new Rift headline, especially in the later period, usually requires waiting a few months. It is normal for popular products to sell well (not including Nintendo's head display). Therefore, products that are supposed to be shipped this summer must be shipped several months ago. Is this possible? In fact, we are still in the pre-purchase period.
If Oculus can meet the wishes of fans a few months in advance, then all is not a problem. Many pre-order users refresh emails over and over again, check bank balances and see if the product is already in transit.
Pre-orders are batch processed according to the time the customer orders. Some early adopters (within 0-10 minutes of the pre-purchase effect) were told to ship in March. March came, but many users received e-mail prompts, orders are being processed, while others are still waiting.
Perplexity and frustration are fermenting on the web. Users express their anger on Twitter, Facebook, Reddit, air advertisements, buses and everything they can think of. The silence of Oculus made fans even more angry and the official finally uttered:
We understand that you are anxious. We are sorry that we did not update the order status in a timely manner. One of the parts was short-lived, so it was not possible to ship early-stage users on time. We have been working hard to update shipping information. On Tuesday, April 12, orders can be viewed online at oculus.com. Some users can still receive products as expected, and we will be exempted from shipping charges and unloading fees as compensation.
The above statement was sent to the affected customers and the delay was caused by the shortage of parts. Oculus will be exempt from shipping charges as compensation on the date of the statement.
Currently, the delivery window has not been updated, and even the 12th will not necessarily be updated. It is expected that users on the 29/29 shipment may have to wait for more than a month.
Oculus refused to respond to the matter.
Samsung Gear VR - Bundling Package Becomes Burden
Rift's brother product, Gear VR, was built by Oculus and Samsung. Samsung recently announced the purchase of the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, which will give it a free Gear VR (retail price is $99).
Samsung has not yet announced the number of people participating in this promotion. However, the technology community is still very optimistic about this. However, the fact is far from this.
IR.net reported that pre-purchase Gear VR package users found that it would take more than a few months to receive the Gear VR headset. Samsung’s practice of smashing sesame seeds and dropping watermelons will make the scene even more out of control.
According to reports, Samsung provided a $100 online store voucher for affected users. However, these coupons can be mailed to users with some code, giving them the feeling of giving to others. A user at Reddit made it clear that if he could not receive the headline on May 5, he would contact the Samsung Customer Department for help.
At present, neither Oculus nor Samsung have stated their position on the matter.
HTC Vive - Shut up, quickly deduct payment
The HTC Vive shipped eight days after Oculus, which was the touchstone for early adopters. HTC will have the same problem, or will complete a perfect shipment, let the opponent shy.
First of all, Vive has this ability. It seems to be stronger than the opponent in the early stages of the sale, but it has already shown signs of delay.
The angry customers, mostly European customers, began to complain that the credit card has not yet been deducted. Worse, the order was canceled many times. Complained like a snowball, the bigger the bigger, the last HTC official issued a statement:
To customers:
Upon completion of this week's order, some of the user's orders will be automatically cancelled due to the processing problems of the banking institution. We are actively seeking solutions and have restored some customers' orders. We pledge that we will assist banks in handling payment issues and ensure that users receive goods on schedule. If you have pre-ordered Vive, we suggest that you confirm the payment issue with the banking institution.
We apologize for this inconvenience. If you still have questions about the order, please call 1 888-216-4736 or consult online
Acknowledgements
Sincerely, Vive members
Bad luck or bad sign?
Oculus delayed the delivery of the facts. However, this is the first time that this young company sold consumer products, and it is also the parent company Facebook's first VR consumer hardware. However, both Samsung and HTC are large corporations. It is difficult to understand the same problem.
The delays are caused by irrelevant links and time lapses, or problems of a nature such as production, delivery and operation.
PSVR will ship in October. In the past few decades, Sony has succeeded in pushing game consoles all over the world. Polygon's Ben Kuchera joked on Twitter that only Sony can break the VR delivery curse.
The problem of shortage of parts is overlooked, and Oculus cannot solve it before delivery? The ordering process is so complicated that HTC cannot collect funds successfully? The product store is so low-end so difficult, Samsung can not meet the pre-order demand?
The mainstream manufacturers are silent and we can only doubt their authenticity. However, if virtual reality really wants to break into the consumer market, these problems must not arise again in the future sales and delivery.
The public needs to understand that we rely on these great people to get the best experience. Sometimes the pace of progress is stopped, but more exciting is still behind.
