Linear Technology Introduces Integrated Bias and White LED Power Converter Solutions

The LED power converter solution, the LTC3524, is used in small to medium size (3" to 7") thin film transistor liquid crystal displays. Operating over an input voltage range of 2.5V to 6V, the LTC3524 is suitable for multi-cell alkaline/NiMH batteries and single-cell Li-Ion applications. Each low noise output of the TFT converter is fully adjustable to power multiple LCD displays. The LTC3524 is capable of generating up to 25mA/6V output for the AVDD channel, and up to 2mA/20V and 2mA/-20V to meet VGH and VGL bias requirements with controlled power up/down sequencing, respectively.
Because the main boost converter uses a synchronous rectification topology, the LTC3524 achieves efficiencies as high as 90% for LCD biasing. The dual LED driver can power up to 10 white LEDs (5 per channel) while its True Color PWMTM dimming achieves a dimming ratio of up to 200:1. Each LED channel is self-contained and has an open LED protection. With a total quiescent current of only 200uA for maximum battery life, its 1.5MHz switching frequency plus 4mm x 4mm QFN package allows the device to be a slim, flat solution.

The LTC3524EUF is available from stock in a 4mm x 4mm QFN package. It is available in 1,000-piece quantities and is priced at $2.25 each.
