The Georgia InsTittute of Technology has developed robots that can use force to sense and help people wear clothes. Researchers hope that in the future, robots will be able to help the elderly, sick or injured people to complete their daily clothes.
According to reports, the scientist-designed PR2 robot can put the patient's clothes on the patient's arm. The scientists also intend to further enable the robot to help the patients in bed to wear clothes.
PR2 helps people wear clothes not through vision, but through contact. The robot simultaneously guides the clothes to the arm and understands the next action by the felt force. PR2 tells you how to get the job done by analyzing more than 11,000 movies and simulating robots that put clothes on your arms.
However, only some of the simulations are quite perfect, and some are completely failed. PR2 predicts what happens when a piece of clothing is moved in some way, such as pulling away from someone and putting on clothes in the right way. PR2 is learning using the wrong way of trying humans.
Associate Professor Charlie Kemp said that the key is that PR2 can think ahead, for example, it will ask itself if pulling clothes in this way will bring more or less force to the human arm. What if other methods are used?
When the dead robot can learn through simulation, the researchers begin experimenting with the robot to dress for humans, while the researchers observe the robot to know where it needs to be changed or improved. By changing the time the robot predicts the next action to test its execution efficiency, it turns out that when the time is changed by up to 5-1, the robot can accurately predict the next action.
At present, PR2 can put patients' clothes into their arms in 10 seconds, but the researchers hope to develop robots that can help people wear clothes, even in people's homes that need long-term care.
