AOI Announces 100Gbps EML Laser Products for Next Generation 400G Optical Module Applications

Leading data centers, cable TV broadband and fiber-to-the-home and telecom optical network product developer AOI have released 100Gbps EML laser products for next-generation 400G optical module applications.

High-speed EML lasers are considered to be more suitable for long-distance transmission applications due to small autumn and low dispersion. AOI's new 100Gbsp EML laser is a 1310nm wavelength, 53Gbaud code rate, suitable for pulse amplitude modulation PAM applications and supports single wavelength 100Gbps applications. Through careful optimization, AOI engineers achieved an operating frequency of up to 38 GHz at 25 degrees Celsius and a 32 GHz operating frequency at 70 °C. The new EML laser has demonstrated good PAM4 eye performance at 100Gbps 70 degrees Celsius, and TDECQ (Transmission Dispersion Eye Closed Four Phase) is compliant with IEEE 802.3 and 100G Lambda MSA specifications.

AOI said their new EML lasers are based on their proven bulk and high yield laser manufacturing technology and are suitable for developing 100G DR1 and 400G DR4/FR4 up to 10km optical modules. Based on this laser, 400W optical modules can be realized by CWDM or PSM, and related technologies such as optical platforms currently used by AOI 100G modules can be utilized, thereby reducing costs and speeding up product launch.

According to Dr. VP Jun Zheng of AOI, the 100Gbps single-wavelength laser is the key technology for high-performance 400G optical modules. With this new 100Gbps EML laser and previously introduced DML lasers, AOI has further expanded its leading position in cost-effective and high-performance 400G optical modules, and will further expand the transmission distance of 400G optical modules.
