An image sensor provides the input video frame to a single-core or dual-core architecture and is optimized by DSP for image filtering and for edge detection and bright spot detection. Additional system requirements include an appropriate communication interface, an integrated DRAM interface for fast access to external memory and embedded flash memory, to implement a cost-effective system.

The Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) is a new standard designed to improve vehicle safety. Freescale uses its advanced integration technology to supply TPMS solutions that provide real-time tire pressure detection and warn drivers of abnormal tire expansion. Freescale's TPMS products are designed to meet the requirements of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 138 and automotive manufacturers worldwide.
Freescale's tire pressure monitoring uses a pressure sensor, an 8-bit MCU, a radio frequency (RF) transmitter, and a dual-axis accelerometer with X-axis and Z-axis. This unit is mounted on a module on the rim to provide independent real-time tire pressure measurements for each tire, which can be sent to the vehicle dashboard for prompt notification to the driver.

The Central Body Control Module (BCM) is the primary hub for main vehicle body functions such as interior and exterior lighting, safety and access control, door and seat comfort and other convenient controls.
Freescale's leading Power Architecture-based 32-bit and S12- and 16-bit MCU families are targeted at a wide range of BCM applications. SBS integrates pressure regulation with CAN or LIN physical interfaces in a single package. The H-bridge driver and a series of high-side switches (eXtreme switches) drive high current loads and replace relays.
The gateway serves as an information bridge for a variety of in-vehicle communications, including Ethernet, FlexRayTM, CAN, LIN, and MOST protocols. It is also used as a central diagnostic interface for cars.
