According to foreign media reports, at the MWC show this week, Intel will release the latest next-generation Atom chip and apply it to smartphones later this year.
In addition, Intel will also display the Atom processor "Bay Trail" in tablets running Microsoft Windows operating system and Google Android system. Intel said that this chip platform will be available in the holiday season this year.
In the first half of this year, Intel will release a multi-mode-multi-band LTE processor, which will be equipped on smartphones, tablets and ultrabooks, and is suitable for multiple networks including 4G LTE, DC-HSPA + and EDGE .
The number of Intel ’s partners will further increase, and more smartphones and tablet devices will adopt its chip products.
Intel will further expand into the mobile market based on the traditional PC and server business, but its main problem is to gain a place in the market dominated by low-power ARM processors and compete with Nvidia and Qualcomm. Intel needs to reduce the power consumption of the processor on the basis of ensuring the chip performance and the number of cores. Although the Atom chip has two cores, Qualcomm and NVIDIA already have quad-core chip products.
The latest Atom chip "Clover Trail +" is specially designed for smartphones, which aims to improve processor efficiency and device life time, making Android mobile products more competitive. Atom's dual-core chip products are divided into three levels: Z2580, Z2560 and Z2520, and the main frequency is between 1.2GHz and 2.0GHz.
Intel said that compared with the previous generation, the new Atom platform has tripled its performance and tripled its graphics processing power. Asus, Lenovo and ZTE will be among the first OEMs to launch smartphones and tablet products equipped with Clover Trail + chips.
Bay Trail is Intel's first quad-core Atom platform, and its performance will reach twice the performance of Intel's current tablet computer chips. Intel said that the tablet with the Bay Trail processing chip can reach a thickness of 8 mm, and has a full day of battery life and several weeks of standby time. Acer, Asus, Dell, Fujitsu, Hewlett-Packard, Lenovo, LG, Samsung and other tablet computer manufacturers and Compal, ECS, Shuo United, Quanta, Wistron and other original design manufacturers will cooperate with Intel.
