Mind control drone, this is a brain hole or reality

Controlling everything with ideas, this is what we often see on TV. Although we are envious, we know that it is just human imagination of good things. Now there are people who have thought of using ideas to control the idea of drones and are working hard to make it a reality. We are beginning to wonder if the idea control is really achievable.

According to foreign media reports, like many other current technologies, drones have been the product of imagination. But now they have become a reality. The drone controlled by minds sounds more like a sci-fi thing. However, PanagioTIs Artemiadis, head of the Humanoid Robotics and Control Lab at the University of Arizona, is working hard to make it a reality.

Mind control drone, this is a brain hole or reality

The Artemidis project was supported by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). The ultimate goal of the project was to discover the brain mechanism that allows human operators to "recognize multi-agent system information" and issue "control commands" to these host systems. In other words, Artemiadis tried to build a system that allowed one to control a group of drones, and each drone received instructions and behaviors that were different.

In the past decade, we have made some progress in the symbiotic relationship between humans and robots, such as allowing amputees to use their minds to control the robotic arm. Artemiadis and his team have a clear research plan. “We first train human operators to imagine those behaviors (instructions or activities), and then we train the algorithms to relate these behaviors to activities in different parts of the brain,” he explained. These instructions are sent to the drone through the EEG machine.

According to Artemiadis, the benefits of developing such a system are self-evident, such as an operator can control multiple independent drones. Moreover, its application prospects are also very broad. Think about it, how fast it will be to map a farm, and you can check 100 wind turbines at the same time, how efficient the search and rescue mission will become. Of course, these systems can also greatly improve the monitoring capabilities, and this is precisely the problem that many people are worried about. However, Artemiadis seems to be more concerned with letting drones act in accordance with the operator's brain.

“This brain group control model is inspired by bird populations or fish schools and has many benefits. For example, it can command a group of drones to fly in a certain formation, which is not possible with manual control interfaces. ."He said. What is really shocking in the picture presented by Artemiadis is, "As long as there is a central controller that can pass instructions to the drone, the brain group control algorithm can command thousands of drones simultaneously. When it comes to feasibility and practicality, DARPA naturally understands which projects to fund. The support of DARPA confirms the credibility of Atmiadis' research. It can be said that the drone controlled by the idea will arrive sooner or later. This is just a matter of time.
