Smart grid feast "open seat" 30 years 40 trillion

According to the investment plan determined by the State Grid, the total investment in the smart grid will exceed 4 trillion yuan in the next 10 years. According to industry experts, the investment funds of the State Grid will drive 10 times or even 100 times more funds to follow up. After 30 years, the planning and construction of China's smart grid will achieve an output value of 40 trillion yuan.

Although the time from "planning" to "reality" is still a long time, the horns of the competition have already sounded. Local governments "run away", Chinese and foreign companies "snaw food", a smart grid cake is in full swing in the diet.

Government rush

On September 28, the State Grid Corporation of China announced the tender announcement for the third batch of smart grid projects in 2010. The bidding involved 12 power transmission and transformation projects and intelligent transformation projects of substations in Gansu Province Electric Power Company, Shanxi Electric Power Company, and Anhui Electric Power Company.

This is in September this year, the State Grid for the second time in a centralized bidding for smart grid projects, bidding frequency has accelerated significantly. A chief person in charge of the China Electric Power Academy stated that with the advancement of the bidding and construction of smart grid projects, the enthusiasm of local governments will further increase.

An electric power equipment and new energy analyst, who did not wish to be named, told the “China Sankei Shimbun” reporter. Although the smart grid promoted by the State Grid has not yet officially become a national strategy, local governments have long opened their doors to the smart grid.

On July 25, the Shanghai Municipal Government and the State Grid Corporation of China officially signed the "Smart Grid Cooperation Strategic Cooperation Agreement." Shanghai became the first batch of smart grid cities to test water.

In the previous month of May, Shanghai issued the "Shanghai Action Plan for Promoting Smart Grid Industry Development (2010-2012)", which is the first local version of the smart grid development plan in China. According to the plan, Shanghai strives to cultivate 3-5 leading companies in the smart grid industry by 2012 and form a competitive smart grid industry cluster with an industrial scale of 50 billion yuan.

Compared with Shanghai's "grabbing," other provinces and cities are not willing to "lag behind." It is understood that Jiangsu, Shandong, Hebei, Zhejiang and other provinces have also started the development of smart grid planning.

In addition to provincial planning, the city-level government has its own more detailed plans. On May 7, the new electric industry development plan of Wenzhou City, Zhejiang Province was announced. The city plans to build an “International Electric City” for two years with an output value of 100 billion yuan. Pingdingshan City, Henan Province announced the blueprint for the construction of “Zhongyuan Electric City”... ...

China Energy Network CIO Han Xiaoping told the "China Sankei Shimbun" reporter that China's path to low-carbon economy, smart grid worth the wait, and is expected to rise to the national strategy. The reason why local governments have shown great enthusiasm for them is mainly based on the investment expectations brought by the smart grid.

Corporate snatch

Chief investigator of the energy industry of the China Investment Advisor, Jiang Qian, told the "China Sankei Shimbun" reporter that the smart grid involves multiple sub-sectors, including new energy generation, grid connection, composite materials, wire and cable, transmission and distribution, metrology and inspection, and electricity. System automation, energy storage, electric vehicle access, communications, information, etc.

According to Wu Jiandong, chief energy expert of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, "it will be a bigger industrial space than 3G business." He predicts that the smart grid construction will drive GDP by one percentage point each year in the next five years. It will also drive innovation and development in nearly 100 industry sectors both upstream and downstream.

Faced with such a feast, some companies with keen sense of smell have already laid out a high profile.

As early as May of 2009, when the National Grid announced the “Smart Grid” development plan to the society for the first time, national related companies such as NARI, Huawei, and ZTE have taken actions to prepare for the smart grid industry cake.

In addition, some companies that have no direct relationship with the grid are also following up. On May 19, Xie Weiliang, general manager of the Aerospace Science and Industry Group, disclosed in Beijing that the demonstration review of the smart grid project of the China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation has passed. This means that astronautics plan to use this as a platform to cut into the field of smart grid construction; In addition, Huali Pharmaceutical also said that it wants to sell its pharmaceutical companies, and concentrate resources on the field of smart grid.

Compared to the “ambition” of domestic companies, foreign companies have already taken aim at China’s “this single business”. For example, GE, Siemens, and ABB have all tried to introduce modern control systems and smart substations and energy storage devices on the grid; the world’s IT giant Google has continued their style in the information field as early as 2008. Announced joint efforts with GE to enter the smart grid industry.

It is worth mentioning that the Schneider Group is attracted by the "great business opportunities" of China's smart grid, and in May this year moved its Asia-Pacific headquarters and China regional headquarters into Beijing Wangjing Science Park.
