How much mobile phone compatible with mobile VR headset?

According to Newzoo's survey, there are currently less than 200 million smartphones in the world that can support virtual reality experiences.

The research agency recently announced that only 191 million (6.8%) of the world's 2.8 billion smart phones are compatible with the major VR headlines: Gear VR and Google Daydream. Among them, 184.4 million smart phones can support Gear VR (6.6%); 5.6 million (0.2) can support Daydream recently released. These two devices represent the benchmark of the current mobile VR. Compared with Google Cardboard, they provide a closer experience to Oculus Rift and HTC Vive.

This means that the potential market space for virtual reality developers is 191 million devices. However, the top sales are still far behind this figure. In January, Samsung said that Gear VR had a global sales volume of 5 million, but it only accounted for 2.7% of the head-mounted mobile phones.

Newzoo said that the lack of a major mobile phone maker's entry also limited the growth of mobile VR. The company said: "If Apple introduced the iPhone 6S and 7 series of high-end VR devices, the potential market for mobile VR will be even greater than that of Samsung."

The report pointed out that the area with the highest market potential for high-end mobile virtual reality is the United States, with the number of VR-Ready smartphones reaching 13.8 million units (12%).
